Nursing, RN to BSN

RN to BSN Track

Admission is based on cumulative GPA, completion of Associate Degree or Diploma in nursing from an accredited program, and license to practice as a registered nurse in Mississippi or a compact state.

Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Each course attempt is used to calculate the overall GPA.

 

Applicants must have completed all core education and nursing courses with a grade of C or higher.

 

Applicants must have graduated from an accredited associate degree or diploma in nursing program.

 

Applicants must submit proof of an unencumbered registered nurse license to practice in Mississippi or a compact state.

 

Students may enroll in the part-time plan of study for RN to BSN courses lacking up to 18 credit hours of nursing prerequisite courses. 

 

Students will receive 30 credit hours awarded for nursing courses within their associate degree or diploma program once a student has successfully completed 15 hours of course work including NUR 350 Transitions to Professional Nursing course in RN to BSN program.

 

Students who do not earn a minimum grade of C in any nursing course will not be allowed to progress in the program.

 

Once offered admission to the RN to BSN Track, the following items must be completed prior to beginning the program.

  • Submit proof of health and auto insurance and have access to reliable transportation to clinical sites
  • Submit proof of healthcare provider CPR certification 
  • Submit proof of physical exam annually
  • Provide proof of TB clearance annually (Two-step TB skin test, Quantiferon TB Gold, or chest x-ray)
  • Provide proof of vaccinations as required by clinical contracts.
    • MMR x2, Varicella x2 (or titer), Hepatitis B x3 (or titer), COVID, Tdap, and seasonal influenza (required annually by October 1)
    • Requirements are subject to change per clinical contracts
  • Gain cleared criminal history background check with fingerprinting and clean drug screen prior to beginning class.
  • Malpractice insurance – arranged by the program

 

Total degree requirements:

Core courses (gen ed)                      60 credit hours

AD / Diploma Nursing courses credit 30 credit hours

RN to BSN track                              30 credit hours

                                                                  TOTAL 120 credit hours

*Credit hour measurements

Didactic 50 minutes per week/15 weeks = 1 credit hour

Laboratory 30 clock hours per semester = 1 credit hour

Clinical 45 clock hours per semester = 1 credit hour

 

*For all BSN students, once enrolled in BMC courses students must have permission to take courses elsewhere (Policy 2.06).  Prior to graduation, 12 of the last 18 credit hours must be earned at BMC (Policy 2.16).
