The Department of Fine Arts offers four areas of study: Art, Music, Speech and Theatre, and Worship Leadership.
Four degree programs are available.
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science with a major in Music
Bachelor of Arts with a major in Speech and Theatre
Bachelor of Music with a major in Worship Leadership
Bachelor of Music Education with a major in Instrumental, Vocal, or Piano
Minors are available in Art, Music, and Speech and Theatre.
Additional Requirements for Degrees in Music
1. Student, faculty, and guest recitals should be scheduled in consultation with the department chair.
a. Schedule changes may be necessary if there is a University calendar conflict or if student recital candidates do not pass pre-recital jury.
b. All half-recitals should be schedule jointly whenever possible.
c. A senior recital has theory prerequisites and students should have senior level standing in their music courses.
2. A student who is not working toward a major or minor in music may earn as many as 8 semester hours of elective credit in applied music courses toward his/her degree.
3. All students taking applied music are required to attend performance class, which meets several times per semester at pre-scheduled times.
a. Performance class is an integral part of the applied music study and directly affects the students' grades.
b. Music majors, worship leadership majors, and music minors are required to attend all student, faculty, and guest artist recitals.
4. All music majors, worship leadership majors, and music minors are required to take a performance examination before the music faculty at the end of each semeser.
a. This performance examination is to be presented during music juries.
b. A student who is not majoring or minoring in music but is enrolled in applied music lessons may take a performance examination as an elective.
