Nursing, Bachelor of Science

Bachelor of Science in Nursing-- Traditional Track

Admission is competitive based on ACT and GPA.

Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and ACT score of 21 or higher OR  a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher with ACT score of 18-20.

Applicants must have successfully completed all core curriculum requirements (prerequisite courses) prior to beginning the program.

All core education and nursing courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Students will have two opportunities to earn a grade of C in the sciences courses: Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, and Pathophysiology. After the second failure to earn a “C” or better in a biological science course, the student is ineligible for admission to the nursing program. 

Applicants must have completed all science courses with the last 5 years.

Students who do not earn a minimum grade of C in any nursing course will not be allowed to progress in the program.

If offered admission to Traditional Track, the following items must be completed prior to beginning the program:

  • Submit proof of health and auto insurance and have access to reliable transportation to clinical sites
  • Provide proof of vaccinations as required by clinical contracts.
    • Varicella x2 (or titer), Hepatitis B x3 (or titer), COVID, Tdap, and seasonal influenza (required annually by October 1)
    • requirements are subject to change per clinical contracts
  • Gain cleared criminal history background check with fingerprinting and clean drug screen prior to beginning class (While in the program, students must have a clean drug screen prior to each term.).
  • Physical exam annually
  • Provide proof of TB clearance annually (Two-step TB skin test, Quantiferon TB Gold, or chest x-ray) 
  • Healthcare provider CPR certification – arranged by the program
  • Malpractice insurance – arranged by the program

 

STANDARDIZED TESTING 

 

Students will take select standardized examinations throughout the Traditional track. The purpose of the standardized examinations taken during courses are to validate your strengths and weaknesses in the specific content area and give you time to strengthen your knowledge in your weak areas. These tests will help prepare students for the NCLEX-RN©.

Didactic 50 minutes per week/15 weeks = 1 credit hour

Laboratory 30 clock hours per semester = 1 credit hour

TRADITIONAL BSN FRESHMAN EARLY ENTRY

 

To be eligible for Freshman Early Entry, students must meet the following requirements.

  • Entering BMCU as a first time full-time Freshman
  • ACT score of 23 or higher
  • High school GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Must maintain continuous full-time enrollment at BMCU
  • Must maintain 3.0 or higher GPA at BMCU
