English with Writing Emphasis, Bachelor of Arts

The major for the Bachelor of Arts program offers an emphasis in writing which requires 46 semester hours of study in English.  The aim of the program is the development of competence in writing across a variety o genres and for multiple audiences and purposes.  The program emphasizes developing each student's unique writing voice, fostering creativity, introducing students influential contemporary writers and trends, and sharpening critical thinking abilities.  The Bachelor of Arts degree with a Writing Emphasis, which also requires 12 hours in a foreign language and a minor field, is usually chosen by students who wish to become professional writers or who plan to pursue graduate studies.
