Requirements
Intrumental Major requirements (64 hours)
MUS 132, MUS 133, MUS 232 and MUS 233: Students must remain continuously enrolled in either class piano or applied piano until all sections of the piano proficiency examination have been satisfactorily completed.

Requirements for all majors in BME degree plan
The following courses are required for all students earning the Bachelor of Music Education, whether majoring in Instrumental, Vocal, or Piano.
Required Education and Physchology Courses (17-18 hours)
EDU 216 Introduction to Education with EDU 217 PRAXIS Core Preparation/Lab. (Not required for students who have an ACT/SAT exemption).
EDU 401 PRAXIS PLT Preparation will be taken concurrently with EDU 400 Theories of Learning.
Professional Education Core
Requires admission to Teacher Education
Professional Semester-12 hours
Requires admission to Teacher Education and taking of the required Mississippi Licensure Examinations.

Performance Requirements-21 hours required. Addttional hours encouraged
Students must be enrolled in a major ensemble every semester. (A major ensemble does not include Jazz Band.) Small ensemble membership is strongly encouraged but not required.
Applied Music Requirements
At least 3 semesters of 300-level applied music must be taken at BMCU. A 300-level barrier exam must be passed to enroll in 300-level applied music. Must be primary instrument. Weekly performance lab is required. Six hours must be 300-level or above.
Recitals and Activities
A minimum of seven semesters of MUS 100 Recitals & Activities is required for the completion of the B.M.E. Instrumental Certification. This is both the individual, lab-based performance component of the student's applied lessons, and the assessment tool for concert attendance each semester of enrollment.
