English, Bachelor of Science in Education

The major for the Bachelor of Science in Education requires 45 semester hours. The aim of the program is the development of competence in reading and writing skills, understanding of the history and development of the English language, and knowledge of the major writers, texts, trends, genres, and historical development of the British and American literary canons. The Bachelor of Science in Education degree is the option chosen by those who plan to teach at the secondary level.

The core courses taken by all degree candidates are directed toward developing the requisite skills in reading, writing, and cultural literacy needed by students, both English and non-English majors, to participate in the broader culture.
